House of the Rising Sun, Literally

Where: Echigo-Tsumari, Japan

James Turrell, known as "the artist of lights", created House of Light, a traditional Japanese ryokan where you can experience the artist's art world.

This property is an 80 minute bullet train from Tokyo, and once you get there you will be treated to the roof opening at sunrise and sunset.  Cool.

There are only three rooms at the House of Light, however, you can cram 6, 8, and 12 guests into the respective rooms in true ryokan style.

The game here is to use the natural light to meditate and find your inner zen.  It will cost you over $200 a night to find that zen, but hey, if you are searching for inner peace you gots to shell out some cash..
