New Year's Eve at Marriott Denver Tech Center Ends In Major Technology Fail

Of all the New Year's Eve parties that took place in hotels on Saturday night, this might be the most action-packed one we've heard about so far. Spread out across two neighboring hotels, the Hyatt Denver Tech Center's "White Rose Gala" and the Marriott Denver Tech Center's "Champagne Hotel" attracted thousands of midnight revelers. And for a while, it was smooth, champagne-fueled sailing.
Until midnight struck, and over 3,000 inebriated Marriott guests tried heading back to their rooms—only to discover they were all locked out! According to MSNBC, a computer error apparently crashed the hotel's entire key card database, and though pretty much everyone was drunk as a bicycle, and ready to collapse into their beds, they all had to wait until 3am to be let back into their rooms.

Ritz-Carlton Denver Now Offering a Beer Massage (Yes, It's Exactly What It Sounds Like)
Oktoberfest may be officially over according to the Germans, but there's still a way for you to soak in your love of beer, literally, at the Ritz-Carlton Denver thanks to their Mile High Malt Scrub and Microbrew Massage offered at the hotel's spa.
Here's how it works--arrive at the spa to check-in and instead of cucumber water, you'll get a chilled brew from a neighboring brewery put in your hands. Once that starts to kick in, you can begin your exfoliating Vichy shower experience. First, a barkeep, er, "treatment therapy provider", will mix a light rice Ale beer into the brewery's own malt. Then a full-body exfoliation is done on you using a malt scrub, followed by a body mask of dark rich Stout which apparently gives you a silky soft skin.

Yeehaw! Hotel Monaco Denver Unveils A Sexy New Vampire Look
There’ve been some fun things going down (or up?) in the Denver hotel scene recently. The latest? The Hotel Monaco Denver's total renovation of all 189 rooms.
They’ve been done by interior designer Susan Caruso with chocolate and persimmon geometric carpeting, tangerine-colored damask drapes and walls in a camel colored “embossed weave”. And if that’s not making any sense to you, just think “sexy”. Don’t they look awesome? That headboard’s kinda gothicky, the carpet goes bam, those cowprint throws are awesome and the clashing colors – blues and orange – work strikingly well. We likey. A lot! A million miles better than how they used to look. And how cute do the double rooms look?! Like little vampire baby twins! It's kind of Twilight crossed with Brokeback. Amaze.

Four Seasons Denver May Need To Work on Its Patter
It’s been nearly a month since Four Seasons Denver opened now, which is sufficient time for guests to take their thoughts of the place to TripAdvisor. Well, four of them, anyway. And they’re mixed.
The good: the location (in between the 16th Street Mall and the Performing Arts Center), the large rooms and what’s in them (TVs in the bathroom mirrors, marbled floors, other Four Seasony accoutrements).
The bad: the pool is outdoors and therefore closed in winter. The spa and gym aren’t as good as those at the Ritz-Carlton according to one reviewer (or possible Ritz employee.) And two out of four reviewers had issues with service: dry cleaning not being delivered on time, a 30(!!!!) minute wait to have luggage retrieved from valet, a front desk agent who slagged off the restaurant chain whose shirt a guest was wearing, without stopping to think that maybe the fact that he was wearing it meant that he worked for them. Fail.

Inside the Cuteness That is Denver's Capitol Hill Mansion
The Snowlover Room
We loved our stay at the Holiday Inn Denver Airport but all good things must come to an end and all airports must eventually be left – so since we were there to see Denver proper, and horrified at room rates at most hotels ($200 upwards) we plumped for a B&B: The Capitol Hill Mansion. Our experiences of B&Bs in America haven’t been tip top, so we had a little trepidation as we called, but the guy on the phone sounded nice, so we took the plunge and booked the cheapest room available for $154.

Free Breakfast Doesn't Mean A Stale Muffin at the Capitol Hill Mansion
Mmmm, food. You may have already had lunch, but we’ll guarantee you’ll find room for a belly gurgle once we tell you about one of the nicest breakfasts we’ve had in a long time at the Capitol Hill Mansion in Denver.
We stayed at the B&B last week, and after a superfriendly welcome, an upgraded room and a comfy night, we came down the next day to find this being cooked for us.
French toast, right? No. Crčme Brulee French Toast. With bacon and maple syrup. We’re not normally into French toast, but this was the best thing we’ve tasted in a long while. The bread was fat, it was oozing flavor and the bacon was heaven.
Not that we needed anything else, but there was also a sideboard chokka with breakfast cereal, home made cake and biscuits and, joy of joys, a huge platter of fresh fruit – blueberries, melon, grapefruit, orange and the like. We had more vitamin C in one sitting than we’d had in the previous month.

The Elevators at the Hyatt Regency Denver Get You In The Mood For Mile High Contemplation

It wasn't just the view from the Peaks Lounge at the Hyatt Regency Denver that we liked last week - we were also pretty partial to the view in the elevator on the way up.
Going up, we rather liked the rain on the plasma screen - setting us up for bad weather up top, which never happened - excellent!

Getting a Rocky Mountain High (Literally) At the Hyatt Regency Denver
One of the main things we wanted to do in Denver? Join the mile high club See some evidence of the place being the Mile High City. We saw it written all over the airport, after all, and we’d heard the slogan a thousand times, but we were half hoping for Alpine-type hills within the city limits, and we got nada.
But then, one of our idols who we crush on over at our sister website, VegasChatter – the great Norm Clarke of the Las Vegas Review Journal – gave us an idea (he used to live in Denver).
He told us we should catch the sunset from the Peaks Lounge at the Hyatt Regency on 15th Street. So we did. And thus it was that, with said peaks in view, we were finally able to believe how high up we were*.
Norm did us proud, because the Peaks Lounge is spectacular. It’s on the 29th floor – the top one – and it’s a long, rectangular room with uninterrupted windows on the long side and the two short ones. There are tables for two or four lined up along the long wall, and at either end there’s a little couch area for mile high orgies groups.
The menu was fairly decent – there were four pages of cocktails – and service was relaxed and not at all pushy. We appreciated that the waiter gave us time to take all the pictures of the sunset that we wanted, before taking our order. And the drink – we chose a Strawberry Shortcake ($12) - was excellent.

Four Seasons Denver Is Ready To Be Unwrapped Next Tuesday
Doesn’t this remind you of your childhood dreams in which you’d come down on Christmas Day and find a horse/car/uattainable object of your desire wrapped up with a big bow under the Christmas tree?
Well the present in this case is a brand new hotel, and the altruistic giver is Four Seasons. The Four Seasons Denver, according to its wrapping, set to open October 19 at midday. That's nearly a full month earlier than we expected.
From walking by, it definitely looked ready – there were lights on in various parts of the building (including some bedrooms – lucky family and friends?), the function room that was lit up upstairs looked ready to go with frothy chandeliers, and there was even a doorman on duty already.

Inside the Holiday Inn Denver Airport, Home to That Flashy White Piano
Did we make so many dodgy musical puns yesterday that the answer to Guess the Hotel was either too easy or swept aside by dreams about Elton John and John Lennon?
Either way, Key West Jon guessed correctly – it was the Holiday Inn at Denver Airport.
Yes, a Holiday Inn with a piano, a log fire, and a fierce lobby area. Yes, we were gobsmacked too. Especially since the only one we’d been in before was the French Quarter New Orleans one, and not only was it grim, but since it was Mardi Gras, we had to step over vomit in the elevator to our room. After that, we vowed to stay away from the brand. But then we got landed with this one on Hotwire.
Anyway, staff at the hotel told us that it opened in July 2009, though Key West Jon reckons it was in June, and Denver.org has it down as even earlier, in April. Either way, it was lovely, and completely different from what we’d expected.
The room was great – modern, spotless, and equipped with everything we needed (we especially liked the choice of firm or soft pillows, and the bottle of mouthwash in the bathroom). The shower was deliciously huge.

All That's Missing from the Four Seasons Denver's Opening Party are Oompa-Loompas

Is that Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory or the Four Seasons Denver?
The Four Seasons Denver is just two months away from opening and we can say for sure that the hotel will open on time on November 13.
How do we know, you ask? Are we in possession of some Magic 8 Ball? Of course not. If we had one of those, we wouldn't have to write nearly half the stories we write about hotel delays. Instead, we're looking to the opening party for clues. And apparently, FSD is throwing a massive opening party. The Denver Post reports:
With the hot national band One Republic headlining along with local singer Rekha Ohal and 15-year-old piano prodigy Joseph Eisele, Four Seasons general manager Thierry Kennel promises a night to remember on Nov. 6.

Four Seasons Denver Now Taking Reservations From Nov. 13

Here we are, still in the dog days of summer with lots of hotel openings to get through before the kids go back to school. But one we're happy to daydream about on a hot stinking day is the debut of the Four Seasons Denver, which will open on what should be a crisp, cool fall day: November 13.
The hotel is now taking reservations for its opening, with rooms starting at $285 a night (including breakfast) on that opening Saturday night. (If you're a football fan like us, you should know that the Broncos play a home game at Invesco Field the next day, against the Chiefs.)
