I arrived at Western Australia's award-winning Merribrook Retreat in time to stash my filthy backpack in one of the nine luxurious, private chalets, change into equally grungy clothes, and sit down to a very civilized, if speedy, lunch prepared by owner Richard Firth. Our group of six, led by Firth and his 24-year old son, George, was preparing to go on a two-day walk along the fabled Cape to Cape Track in Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park. A part of the Margaret River region, this park is only three hours south of Perth.
