Would You Sleep at a Biodome Hotel Inside a Zoo?

September 24, 2010 at 11:41 AM | by | Comments (2)

The other week, we checked out a hotel that had a zoo on its roof but if the Chester Zoo's Biodome in Yorkshire, UK actually gets built, then you could be sleeping inside the zoo. According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the £225 million Heart of Africa Biodome was just given the go-ahead by government officials:

The work, which will include a hotel and underwater exhibit buildings as well as the Africa rainforest - will help the zoo attract two million annual visitors by 2022.

Currently, the zoo has 7,000 animals from over 400 species but the biodome and its hotel will probably not be built without a fight from the surrounding neighborhood and its residents. Also, shouldn't someone alert PETA? While we're all for interesting hotel concepts--underwater hotels, space hotels, etc--having a hotel inside a biodome next to an African rainforest will only fuel their argument that imprisoning animals for entertainment is cruel.

Lastly, this is what we still think of when we hear the word "Biodome." Then again, maybe the Chester Zoo's Biodome hotel will help us overcome that.

ABode Chester Might Make A Trip To Chester Worthwhile

Disclaimer: we’re not quite sure why you’d want to go to Chester. However, we’re not ones to judge. You could be working, you could be seeing the beautiful north of England, you could be big Hollyoaks fans wanting a set tour. We won’t question.

What we will do is point out that there’s a rather nice accommodation option opening in Chester very soon – a branch of ABode, the mini chain owned by chef Michael Caines.

We’ve stayed in the Manchester one before and although the windows were filthy, the design was lovely. We’ve also heard great things about the Exeter branch (although we're none too keen on Glasgow). So we’re hoping this will be a goodie.

Six Kids Get Sick from Indoor Pool

Last week, six children attending a pool party at the Holiday Inn Express in Chester, New York, which has an indoor pool and a hot tub, ended up gettting fevers and blisters on their skin.

The health county has shut down the pool, due to high levels of chemicals like bromine, in the water.

Like chlorine, bromine is used as a sanitizer in pools, especially those using warm water....The most seriously impacted child...developed large blisters under his eyes that, along with a 103-degree fever, kept him out of school for the week. All the other children have fully recovered.

While health officials haven't nailed down if high bromine levels was the exact culprit of the illnesses, the hotel owner is saying that the pool chemicals are not responsible and that the hotel is cooperating with the health department.

Just think twice before you jump into a hot tub, especially one indoors.
