Racy But Traditional: A New Cotswolds Hotel For Rahs and WAGs
It’s been a little while since we had a nice country house hotel opening, so we’re excited to hear from a tipster about the Ellenborough Park, in the Cotswolds, just outside Cheltenham, that’s opening (or rather, reopening, refurbished and under new management) on Friday.
According to the website, the hotel will offer 62 bedrooms designed by Nina Campbell in a “traditional yet sophisticated English country house style”. From the photos, they look frilly, but not offensively so – not exactly our normal style, but something we could branch out of our comfort zone for. The bathrooms, however, look a little more modern – and all rooms have Hypnos beds, laptop-sized safes, iPod docking stations and – important for a chilly country manor – underfloor heating in the bathrooms. Although – gasp! Is that a country house-style peekaboo bathroom we see? Surely not.

Where The Potter Cast Slept

It's that time of year again when children of all ages line the streets, ransack the stores, and go crazy for Harry Potter. Today, Pottermania hits new levels as Darryl and Jo Gregory, the owners of The Hotel on the Park in Cheltenham, broke their three year silence revealing that 9 of their hotel rooms were occupied by the adult cast members of the Chamber of Secrets during filming.
For those who have yet to memorize the cast, Kenneth Branagh (who requested a massage ASAP), Dame Maggie Smith (who enjoyed breakfast in her four poster bed), Warwick Davis, Miriam Margolyes, Alan Rickman (who invited the proprietors to the set) and the late Richard Harris (who had a couple drinks and told stories to Branagh and Rickman, who seemed mesmerized by his presence, all stayed at the hotel.
As for prima donnas, all Derryl would divulge was:
One or two were certainly that way inclined, they were very theatrical, luvvy types if you like. One or two of them, one in particular, but I'll leave it at that.
