The ever-burgeoning London hotel scene may have most of our attention at the moment, but we’re far from immune to the charms of Brighton, especially with the news that one of our favorite fun hotels there, myhotel Brighton, has just opened a restaurant devoted to one of our favorite foods: curry.

Not just any restaurant, either - it’s the new site for The Chilli Pickle, which won the prize for most innovative restaurant at last year’s British Curry Awards, and received two AA rosettes and a Michelin BiB Gourmand thing too.

The restaurant got all its plaudits (and rave TripAdvisor reviews) in its old location in Meetings House Lane but it’s now upped sticks to the hotel, and opened its doors Monday.

It’s owned by the same team and will have the same menu as before, as well as introducing some new dishes from a recent trip to India.

Prices are really reasonable, too: vegetable dishes from £3.50, mains from £6.95 and thalis for £9.95 for lunch and from £12.95 for dinner. The one to go for? The new Mutton Laal Mans – pieces of mutton in hot red chilli gravy from Rajasthan, courtesy of their latest trip.

Hit The Beach (Hut) at Hotel Du Vin Brighton

As the song goes, we do like to be beside the seaside. What we don’t like is sharing the seaside with the thousands of others who like it too. Especially when everyone’s had the same idea to jump on a train in London and hit up the coast at Brighton, as happens every time the sun comes out.

To make things a little less messy, Hotel du Vin down there is putting its Victorian beach hut up for rent. It’s about two and a half miles from the hotel, on the beach at Hove rather than bang in Brighton (but then, there’s not room for a bottle of sun tan lotion on the beach at Brighton when it’s summer, so that’s a good thing).

It used to be available to guests staying in the hotel suites, but they never used it (those suites are that nice, see) – so this year the hotel has given it a complete refurb and opened it up to the plebs. By which we mean everyone – you don’t even have to be staying there to rent it.

You have to book in advance, obviously, and it’s not cheap – a day’s hire costs from £45 per person. But that £45 does include a food hamper (a picnic basket), wine, bikes and the knowledge that you can retreat from the hoi polloi into your own little bunker at any point. And that, in Brighton, is pretty precious. It also comes stocked with cricket bats, beach balls, badminton racquets, deckchairs and parasols, which can double as umbrellas should the weather turn British.

If you want to make a night of it, HdV itself has (proper) rooms from £170, excluding breakfast.

Brighton's Blanch House Gets Flickr Reviewed

Flickr member vanderwal gives one of those short, to the point, Flickr reviews where we learn just enough about a Brighton's Blanch House Hotel:

It was a great place to stay, if it had WiFi or even wired broadband it would have been perfect (Sidewinder's pub around the corner had wifi and decent menu). Blanch House has a killer bar.

Almost a tease, isn't it?

Tip: If you want to impress your significant other, and you two are open to middle of the room whirlpool baths, check into the Galaxy Room--a luxe room inspired by Galaxy Chocolate.

Karim Rashid Designs the Future for myhotel

Karim Rahid, aka, Karim the White, has seen the future of hotels, and it involves the ghost of Freddie Mercury, Maharishi, and Britney Spears on a rotating bed. Well, maybe not Britney, but we can't help but think Rashid at least chuckled when he read this.

Super hip myhotel chain in Britain already has two hotels up and running: myhotel Bloomsbury "where east meets west" and much more intriguingly, myhotel Chelsea where "Sex and the City meets Brideshead Revisited". So it's with more than a little anticipation that we wait for the new myhotel Brighton to get up and running, which should be sometime during the winter.

The word is that myhotel Brighton will be something like "Freddie Mercury meets the Maharishi" and the rumor is that some of the rooms will have round ends. Cool. On top of that, the beds will be something special:

Designs for the hotel's bedrooms are believed to include centrally positioned rotating beds with integral writing desks.

We are sure Yahoo! employees are already lining up to book a room. Pity we have to wait a few months longer.

Mr. Sandman

Page Six reports today that Mike Tyson is holed up at the Hilton Metropole in Brighton, England, and old-school seaside resort town. Apparently, Tyson was seen spiriting strippers and hookers--perhaps one tucked under each arm--up to his room on two consecutive nights.

What could Mike see in a grand old dame hotel like the Metropole? Well, according to one reviewer, the hotel has "the largest bed I've seen in a Hilton", which would certainly be conducive to holding a whole menagerie of loose women.

Other than that, we're a little surprised Iron Mike stayed here, as this hotel does not seem to have much to recommend it. On TripAdvisor, the words "scruffy", "dirty", "overpriced" and "tattered" seem to crop up repeatedly. Unless Mike chose to stay at the Metropole because it attracts a certain type of lady (the type that's a prostitute), we're a little disappointed. Next time, he should stay at the Square. At least they clean the rooms there.

Across the pond and looking for a cool hotel to impress the pants off your significant other?  Try Hotel Pelirocco in Brighton. Pelirocco houses 19 bedrooms themed around pop subculture.

You can spend the night in the swanky, seventies, swinging, Lenny Beige tribute room (pictured to the right).

Throw a party in the Rough Trade Records room, complete with headphones and a deck, or try something on the raunchier side in the Nookii, Pussy, or Boudoir rooms.  Pelirocco is not all provocative, but the hotel does always focus on provocateurs. For instance, two of the more mainstream rooms focus on Mohammed Ali (the Ali Room) and artist Salvador Dali-eque art (Sugar Glider room).

Each room has been curated by the likes of Japan's Hyseteric Glamour and other groups with cult followings.
