Get Bombed, Cupcake Bath Bombed, at The St. Julien Hotel Spa

Some critics may claim that real spas don’t serve cocktails. We beg to differ. Hell, we’ve seen the pix of Kate Moss "detoxing" at Chiva-Som International Health Resort in Hua Hin, Thailand, cigarette in one hand, cocktail in the other. That’s why we’re in sybaritic spa heaven when hotel restaurants, bars and spas collide, like at St. Julien Hotel & Spa in Boulder, Colo.
Now through September, the hotel's spa is serving up two seasonal spa treatments that go above and beyond just offering green tea after your treatment is over:

The Hotel Boulderado Turns 100

What’s not to love about Boulder, Colorado? This town of just over 100,000 people was the first in the country to tax itself to preserve open space. Its university, University of Colorado at Boulder, offers valet parking for bikes. Its eclectic roster of residents includes aerospace engineers, Buddhist practitioners, retired Olympians and culinary stars.
For weekend warriors, it’s less than an hour drive from Denver International Airport. If ever there was poster child for proving that having an eco mindset doesn’t mean having to sacrifice the finer things in life, Boulder would be it.

Turkey Day at The St. Julien in Boulder

The St. Julien Hotel in Boulder recently got a shout-out from Conde Nast Traveler as the only hotel in Colorado to make it on the mag's 2008 Readers' Choice Awards for the Top 100 U.S. Hotels. Pretty impressive, considering all those richie rich hotels in Aspen.

Seatings are available between 11:00 and 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 and 2:00 p.m. Expect turkey goodness, sweet and garlic mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables and alcohol in the form of champagne, mimosas and bellinis. A 'Zero Carbon Footprint' Dinner at the St. Julien Hotel

Green hotels? We've got you covered. Hotel restaurants? We like those, too. But now we can put both together, thanks to the Zero Carbon Footprint dinner coming up Jill's Restaurant at the St. Julien Hotel & Spa.
The swanky Boulder hotel (known for its pricey drinks) has put together a five-course tasting menu featuring ingredients drawn from within 100 miles of the hotel. (Promotions like this are the reason "locavore" is the word of the year.) The special dinner will be served on March 20, which is International Earth Day.
On the menu are Hoppin' John with local mushrooms, flatiron steaks and a brulee banana split. Benziger wines, matched to each course, are from California, but are made without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. If you need to sleep off this Earth-friendly meal, the hotel has a package for two, including dinner, going for $325.

WiFi Hell: Millenium Harvest Hotel
Millenium's Harvest Hotel in Boulder, Colorado openly admits that they charge for guestroom internet access. What they fail to mention however, is that the internet won't work.
Blogger Ross Rader from Toronto found himself wasting hour upon hour trying to get work done in his room to no avail. He goes so far as to claims the hotel just isn't for business folks:
First off, the Millenium isn't a business class hotel. They have a lot of great amenities, but they don't go out of their way to make life easier for business users. There's lots of noise in the hallways, what seems like a five minute walk just to get to the front desk and no taxi stand out front (although I understand that dependable taxi servce basically doesn't exist in Boulder).
Most aggravating is the shitty internet access. They insist on charging me $10 per day for access, but the quality is really awful. For the first day, it wouldn't work at all. Typically, the front desk staff was clueless about how to fix the problem and I was very quickly escalated to the real operator that contracts with the hotel. It took them a bit, but they eventually dispatched "a local technician" to the hotel to fix the server. When I got back to the hotel that evening, everything was working fine. Hopefully they don't try to charge me for the first two days of service because I ain't paying.

Pricier Drinks and Stuffed Animals at St. Julien

The St. Julien Hotel & Spa in Boulder, Colorado opened in January 2005 but they are still offering their introductory rates of $159-$219, depending on which day you come and what type of view you want (city or mountain?)
While the room price might be nice, the bar area tends to charge a bit more for drinks:
The prices in the hotel bar were 40% above those in the bars in Boulder so there was nobody there. Overall, not for the single traveller or anyone who likes a bit of banter over a pint in the evening.
The LA Times on the other hand learned that late night is when the T-Zero bar gets packed.
In the end what does a bar scene matter when you get to go back to your room and play with the plush gophers and chipmunks which also serve as Do-Not-Disturb signs.
