Birmingham's NiteNite Hotel Offering Perks, Not Discounts

What to do if you're a British hotel wanting to ride out the recession? You can drop your rates. You can run special offers. You can even give away free rooms, as long as your guests buy a bottle of Cristal. Or, if you're Birmingham hotel nitenite (yes, all lower-cased), you can throw in all the extras you'd expect at a big bucks hotel, while you keep your prices in the budget bracket.
Simply knocking down rates "may attract an entirely different market sector to those originally targeted," says the hotel which reminds me of a hybrid of Yotels and easyhotels. A bit sniffy? Maybe, but rooms start at a mere £45 ($61) in the first place. Also, you probably haven't been to Birmingham before.
Anyway, instead of cheaper rooms, nitenite is offering free WiFi, water and blockbuster movies starting February 2nd. You pay upfront for your pod-style room when you book it, too, so you'll be in for a swift check-in and out. Which should leave you extra time to ponder what exactly you're doing in Birmingham in the first place. We kid, we kid. But this does look like the coolest spot in all of Birmingham. Check out the room pics here.

"Staying Cool" is Getting Easy To Do in the UK

We're not quite sure if we could book ourselves into accommodation called Staying Cool but we admire the gall of people who could.
The Staying Cool moniker belongs to a group of serviced apartments in Birmingham, Manchester, Devon and Barcelona, and they strive to be, as you'd imagine, pretty darn cool. In their own words, Staying Cool apartments are:
the hip alternative to a hotel ... kitted out with bespoke pieces from some of the hottest UK designers, serviced to meet all your needs but with the independence and individuality (no two are the same) of your own wow apartment.
The Birmingham Staying Cool at Rotunda property has just been given the first five-star rating in the whole city after opening up in May this year. So if you want five-stars in Birmingham, for now you'll have to check into Staying Cool.
Their rates start at £129 (US$230) a night, with rates starting from just £110 (US$200) at other properties. So apparently being cool doesn't have to cost you everything. But we still don't want to tell our friends "We're staying at Staying Cool".

Indiana Pacers Equipment Manager Shows Off Balls At Michigan Hotel
Usually hotels get peeved when you steal their towels -- but management at The Townsend Hotel, in Birmingham, Mich, is fuming that a guest wasn't wearing a towel.
Joe Qatato, an equipment manager for the Indiana Pacers who lost the same night, was, errrr, handling his equipment, fully naked, in front of an upper-floor window on Tuesday, according to TheIndyChannel.com
Qatato is expected to appear at a Birmingham court to face a misdemeanor charge June 23.
