Fore Play: Bandon Dunes Golf Resort

The Pacific Northwest has always been a popular golf destination but with the arrival of the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort and its homage to Scotland--"Golf as it was meant to be"--the area has become the premiere destination for golf enthusiasts.
The resort has three courses set along Oregon's coastline--Bandon Dunes, Pacific Dunes, and Bandon Trails. Bandon Dunes opened first in 1999, followed by Pacific in 2001 and Bandon Trails in 2005. The Pacific Dunes course is also the site of the 2006 Curtis Cup which pits females players from the U.S. against the U.K.
The resort offers four different types of accommodations, one of which are The Grove Cottages, designed specifically for your golfer foursome. Each cottage has four bedrooms with king beds and private baths, along with indoor fireplaces and outdoor patios with views of Round Lake. These are the largest lodgings the place has to offer but also the most expensive at $1,400 a night year-round.
The cottages do not have kitchens but the resort area has five restaurants and bars worth checking out, including the McKee's Pub, a Scottish-style pub serving local microbrews and classic single malt scotches.
And if you do choose to play the courses at Bandon Dunes, it helps to stay there as greens fees for hotel guests are $185, compared with $240 for others.
