It's a Start: The Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington is Doing Free WiFi Days Next Week

Marriott Hotels have consistently made the "Worst" list on our Annual Hotel WiFi Report but one Marriott is trying to change that.
The Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington, Virginia--Marriott's second and longest-operating hotel--let us know that the hotel is "finally moving into the 21st century" by joining with AT&T to put fast WiFi in all the guest rooms, suites, meeting spaces and the lobby.
Due to the switch, guests can get online faster and have up to 12 times more bandwidth and reliable connectivity. To celebrate the new wireless provider, the hotel is offering free WiFi for all guests in the guestrooms on May 16 and May 17. The only catch is the WiFi will only have a 2-megabytes per second (mbps) capacity.

Renaissance Arlington Capital View Steps up Opening Date to Next Week

It's not often hotels beat their projected opening dates, and it's even more remarkable from the Renaissance Arlington Capital View because the hotel is already* will likely be LEED certified, a process that's ordinarily more complicated than Charlie Sheen's interview schedule. Last we heard, the place would open in April; they're now taking rezzies for March 9 and on.
The Renaissance corporate blog says the opening date for the hotel—situated a four-mile cab or short Metro ride from the heart of D.C.—is March 9 and promises "grand opening deals." Our initial test bookings revealed no such thing, with weekday rates starting from $299 whether you're shopping for next week or April. But punching in promo code SB4 reveals weekend stays for as little as $139, including breakfast for up to two adults and two kids.
Btw, it must be coincidental but there's some humor in the fact that the hotel's website URL contains the word "waspy." Doesn't get more Arlington than that!
*Update: The hotel's PR writes to clarify that "the Renaissance Arlington Capital View has been designed to receive a LEED Silver Certification, which we hope to receive later in the year," meaning it hasn't actually secured the LEED oak leaves just yet. They also confirm an opening date of March 9—it was initially listed on the corporate blog as March 16—putting the property ahead of original schedule.

Where Can You Still Find Rooms for Super Bowl XLV Hotels in Arlington?

Know of a hotel room open for Super Bowl? Tell us where right here.
The game is almost upon us and rooms can still be had in the Dallas-Fort Worth area at sometimes surprisingly low rates for February 6. We scanned prices this morning with our custom hotel search tool, looking at those properties as close as possible to Cowboys Stadium that still had vacancies.
The SpringHill Suites Arlington, where rooms are big enough to have your friends crash, are selling for $518.
La Quinta Dallas-Arlington North is going for $549, which is probably the most we've ever seen a La Quinta charge.
The Hawthorn Suites DFW is a shade cheaper at $509.

There Should Be Plenty of Hotel Rooms for Super Bowl XLV in Dallas But Where?

Know of a hotel room open for Super Bowl? Tell us where right here.
We haven't even celebrated Christmas or New Year's yet but we've already got our minds tuned into the Super Bowl XLV Hotel Scene in Dallas.
The other week we told you that there were still plenty of somewhat reasonable options near Cowboy Stadium and a few commenters added a couple of other suggestions too.
But before you start to get worried that all the hotels will get booked out, the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee has recently gone on record saying that, "There are enough hotel rooms in the area to accommodate all of the Super Bowl travelers coming in."
Which means doing home rentals of any sort will not be necessary. That is, unless you want all of your old fraternity brothers to watch the game together.
So now what other hotels still have availability for Super Bowl XV?

Where to Get Super Bowl XLV Hotel Rooms in Dallas

Know of a hotel room open for Super Bowl? Tell us where right here.
We know that getting a hotel room for Super Bowl is always tough goings as most hotels tend to sell out a year before the big game. Heck, the JW Marriott Indianapolis is not even open and it's already sold-out for Super Bowl 2012.
But things look rather dire in and around Dallas where the Super Bowl is happening on February 6. According to WFAA, 24,000 hotel rooms in the Dallas, Collin, Denton and Tarrant counties are under contract for use by the NFL during Super Bowl weekend and hotels up to 50 miles away are reportedly booked up. Still not all hope is lost. Just your cash.

A Renaissance Is Coming To Arlington (A Hotel, That Is)

Whichever way things swing in 2012, one thing's for sure: a new Renaissance is headed D.C. way. Well, a Renaissance Hotel, at any rate. The new hotel, scheduled to open next March or April is actually in Arlington, VA, but conveniently close to Reagan National Airport and just over the Potomac from D.C.
The Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel will be LEED-certified and, according to its website, have "the soul of a boutique hotel with the location and amenities suited for business in and around the nation's capital."

Golly Gee, The Palomar Arlington Will Give You a Tree
Hey, remember Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree? Didn't it sort of change your life? And didn't it make you wish you had a tree that was your BFF and gave you stuff while teaching you lessons about life as you grew older? Yes? Us too.
Believe it or not, the Hotel Palomar Arlington may make that dream come true for you by giving you a tree. Yes. They're giving you a wee little tree. It may end up being a Giving Tree when it gets bigger, too. Which would be pretty cool.

Arlington Gets a Westin

View from the Wing headed over to the opening of the new Westin Arlington Gateway in Virgina yesterday.
While they think the hotel is better than some of the others in town, it's still nothing special on the inside.
The rooms themselves seemed quite small to me. Of course the Heavenly bed is there and the Heavenly bath (which just amounts to the curved shower curtain rod and the dual overhead spray)...
There are twelve suites currently open (that is, twelve suites outside of the top two floors that aren't done or fully determined). With over 320 rooms, I imagine upgrades won't be easy for Platinums. Frankly, the suites just felt like nice large hotel rooms, there's a living room area separated off from the bedroom that's still about the size of a regular hotel room.
They also heard talk of having a connection to the DC metro underground in the parking garage but there were no concrete details about how this would happen or when.
On the plus side, there's wi-fi in the hotel's public places.

Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City
[Editor's Note: Hotel Maven dzot writes this review while sipping a glass of Mondavi Fume Blanc--so keep that in mind.]
The Ritz-Carlton in Arlington, VA (generally referred to as the Ritz-Carlton -- Pentagon City) is where the wire-wearing Linda Tripp met with Monica Lewinsky to get her to dish about Bill Clinton and his mating habits. While FBI agents listened in from one of the suites upstairs, the ladies had a nice little drink and some girl talk in the very lounge where I am now writing this, having sequestered a comfortable sofa and a glass of Mondavi Fume Blanc (me, that is, not Linda and Monica).
