Escape the Sniffles at Kamalame Cay in the Bahamas

With Flu Season around the corner (or is it already here?) a spa and wellness offering from the Kamalame Cay Resort on Andros Island in the Bahamas sounds right up our alley.

We're prone to get the sniffles as soon as the weather dips below 60 degrees--in fact, we've got 'em now--so any sort of "wellness" package catches our eye. Although, we probably have to heed Alanis Morisette's advice and get off these antibiotics before we hit up this resort.

The package includes four days of yoga and meditation on the 96-acre resort, hosted by Jo Hook, a founder of the Avatar Yoga Retreats and Body as an Instrument, a holistic fitness program.

Since you're body is getting a workout the package includes treatments at the 2,000 sq. ft. aqua spa. There's also life-coaching sessions, a six-mile walk or run and healthy cuisine served each day. You can see the full schedule right here. If only we could breathe through our nose right now, we'd be on the phone coordinating this package right now.

Still, we're in luck. The package doesn't start until January 11-14 and there is another session next October 17-20. Now, we just need to ask Santa for some money as the all-inclusive rates start at $1,799 per person. Santa, our body needs it. Pleeasseee....

High Hopes Fulfilled at Small Hope Bay Lodge

Although we love cruisin' for pretty leaves we realize it isn't for everyone. If the whole fall thing's got you down, you may as well give up all together and head somewhere like the Bahamas. But for many of us, the mentioning of these islands along with a name like Small Hope Bay Lodge and we're fearing a run-down shanty and cockroaches.

Luckily, Small Hope lives up to Big Expectations and ranks high in TripAdvisor reviews. This is the place to go if you aren't in the mood for an oversized and impersonal resort with loud nightclubs nearby. Instead, if you want sun, beach, hammock, and hot tub, then you'll be all set here:

This little getaway spot could not be more idyllic! The lodge itself invites a friendly atmosphere, and the people working at Small Hope become like a second family once you've spent a week or so in the peace and beauty. The food is amazing- great selection of fresh local fruits for breakfast, a buffet lunch, and an amazing Bahamian dinner, including an amazing selection of seafood, is eaten on the terrace (weather permitting).

The little cottages in which you stay are literally ten steps or less away from the beach- hammocks are strung between palm trees, and there are often butterflies around, or little lizards scurrying past.

Small Hope isn't the most luxurious place on the planet, and the web site photos seem to have been taken sometime in the 1980s as evidenced by a woman's feathered 'do and a man's short swim trunks. But it is charming enough to make you forget the pretty fall foliage and pumpkin pie you left behind.

December...What A Beautiful Time Of Year

That is the most recent headline on the Tiamo Resort blog.

Tiamo Resort is in the Bahamas, so that explains why their blog is rubbing our noses in "cool nights and sunny days", "dolphin swims", and "a variety of orchids are blooming right now".

Did you sell your Soho loft this year? If so, it may be time to whisk yourself, and a hanger-on or two, off to Nassau, where you will be transported via seaplane (or boat) to an Andros Island resort with 12 pastel-painted beach chic bungalows. This resort is far away from the Jerseyfied winter crowds that inhabit Nassau and other touristy areas.

The Tiamo perfectionists are currently planning their annual New Year's Eve fest. Straight from the blog:

It is always a hit - we look forward to seeing our repeat guests and integrating the new ones for the special week at Tiamo. Rake & scrape music, Junkanoo and a nine course meal are just part of this year's celebration.

Picture perfect beach, great snorkeling, bonefishing, swimming with dolphins, winner's of the "Green Hotel of the Year" in 2002, their own blog, and a freakin' sea plane--do these folks do anything wrong?

Yes! We are glad to report that you will have to wear bug spray during your stay because there are a couple of insects at the resort.

Yeah, that's all we got on the negative side of the ledger thus far.
