Etu Moana Aitutaki Part II

[Editor's Note: Hotel Maven shully seconds nicco888's earlier review.]

Just returned from my fourth trip to Aitutaki and found Etu Moana, a fabulous new property on the west side of Aitutaki, Cook Islands. The previous reviewer did an excellent job of describing the owners at Etu Moana.

The bungalows are simply gorgeous--granite countertops, indoor and outdoor garden showers, king beds raised so you can see the ocean sunset every night! The verandas are large, with a day bed for naps. And guess what? Their rates have been drastically reduced as they have just opened! They even have purified water! You'll need to get a car/scooter though, as they are only close to one small organic cafe.

Furthermore, the island cyclones have redistributed the sand around the lagoon. Thus, the beach is now spit spot clean, and the water is deeper then ever on the west side.

One more hint: the best swimming beach is at the Samade Beach, a very affordable new property in the three star range that houses a bar and restaurant. You can pop over for lunch and a dip.

Cool New Hotel in Cook Islands - Etu Moana

[Editor's Note: Hotel Maven nicco888 writes in to share his recent Cook Islands experience at the spankin' new Etu Moana resort. No over water bungalows, but y'all know we are suckers for that new resort smell.]

Hi there, I have just returned from a holiday in the Cook Islands. The highlight was a stay at a new resort in Aitutaki called Etu Moana.

The property is run by a couple, one who is Canadian and her husband who is Dutch. The resort opened in January 2005 so it is brand new at the moment. It has been built by the husband, who has ensured the beach villa's are remarkably well constructed, in fact IMHO they are the best built buildings on the small island). They have a self catering policy so each villa has a well equipped kitchen, but if you want great food you can just go to one of the many restaurants on the island. Which means you can dine in the many island resorts while cleverly avoiding the accommodation cost of having to stay at these expensive and aging resorts.
