More Dirty Little Rooms In Italy
Recently, for whatever reason, Italian hotels are leading the league in terrible hotel stays. Blogger Marty Michaels returns to tell us about the Villa Athena in Agrigento Sicily, which she refers to as "the worst hotel in Italy".
Granted, she cites a stay in 2001, which was what, over three years ago? However, if the stench of a terrible hotel visit sticks with you for three plus years, that in itself says something.
Back then, Marty found Hotel Villa Athena full of rude service, bellhops scratching below the belt, dirty little rooms, and jail cell-esque bathrooms.
According to Marty:
Fodor's calls it "pleasant," although not outstanding, and writes that "there's a convivial atmosphere in the bar, where a multinational crowd swaps stories." Judging from our experience, it was more of an angry mob at the front desk, trying in vain to get satisfaction. If any stories were being swapped, they were stories of how crappy their rooms were and how nothing in them worked.
[Editor's Note: If anyone visited the Hotel Villa Athena more recently than Marty, let us know what you thought--maybe things are improving, however, after reading these stories we are not holding our breath.]
